Burning Oil

Burning Oil
Hey guys long time reader first time poster. I was wondering if you guys would be able to help me out with some specific problems i am experiencing. I have my own theorys on what it could be but i wont mention them just so i can get different answers that none are based upon what i think might be wrong.
So anyways here it goes. Ive got a 1990 honda Crx Dx engine d16b2.
200K on the motor
The car is practically mint for its ago almost nothing wrong with it at all. But i have a HUGE oil burning problem . IT IS NOT COOLANT. no headgasket issue. No white on the bottom of the oil cap . no white smoke. only blue smoke .
But what seems to happen is if i rev pretty high it will burn more oil. understandable yes. But what also happens is i turn the car off and let it sit for a couple minutes and start it back up. and when i do this somtimes the engine will stall and burn ALOT of oil.. and then start it again and it still burns alot of oil. then slowly calms down until its hardly visible at all. Generally the smoke is extremely worse after driving for a little while and then turning it off and letting it sit for a short period of time.
My theories all lie underneat the valve cover. But any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys.

RE: Burning Oil
If you have access toan engine boroscope, you can take your plugs off and see if your valves have a lot of carbon build up from valve guide seal leaking, or scored cylinder wall allowing oil into the combustion chamber. If the car was driven hard, it could be weak oil rings. take off your oil fill cap, and idle the engine, if there is a lot of blow by, it indicates compression rings going soft. also a compression check may indicatelow compression.

RE: Burning Oil
thanks alot for the reply. i have done a compression test and all cylinders came up with 155 -160 except one which was 180. the previous owner had used silicon as a valve cover gasket which leads me to believe they did the same with the valve guide seals.
i took off my pretty much brand new spark plugs and they did have alot of carbon build up. i put in some very thick oil and the problem seems to have almost dissapeared. I will replace all the rubber seals under the valve cover with REal ones not silicone.
again though thanks alot for the reply and any other information would be greatly appreciated. especialyl about the 180 compression i do not understand the odd/high compression on the one cylinder.
thanks,
Rob

RE: Burning Oil
higher compression on one cyl may mean your cylinder compression rings are still good, and the other cylinders are getting weak. Also carbon on the spark plugs may also mean the valve guide seals are leaking oil down through the valve stem, causing smoking/oil burning. The compression check indicates the engine is still in good condition.
