Civic vs. Civic Hybrid
I am thinking of buying a new 2008 Civic. I am trying to decide whether to buy a "plain" Civic or buy a Civic Hybrid. Does anyone have any REALTIME info on the hybrid? What is the REAL difference in gas mileage. Are they slower?Who owns one? Are they worth the extra money? I don't think I will get the money back in gas savings after I drop down an extra $3,000 (or whatever) for the hybrid. What is the consensus?
My recommendation...You'll enjoy the regular Civic much more. No...you wont get the absolute best MPG with the hybrid (as if you bought discount auto parts). Regular civic will be lot better than anything else.
You might want to go test drive the hybrid, and the gas one and do the same type of driving with both. Then take the cost of each car and break down the cost of driving over a 5 year period and see how long it takes to pay down the diffrence of the higher cost of the hybrid. In 02 I purchased the civic dx over the hybrid due to it would take 8 yrs for me to pay the difference with the gas milage I was getting gas verses battery. Then on the 8th year, i would have to be ready to replace the battery if needed. To day I would purchase the hybrid or the natural gas for fuel economy providing the fuel continues to climb to 4.00 + perhaps to 5.00. In the end it will be your choice. Hybrid can do just about equal to the gas but saves on gas. I drove the hybrid, gas, natural gas, the si, I ended up buying the FIT
Go for the Hybrid. We just got one and right off the lot we are doing 41 city and 50 highway. It's comfortable and handles well. The dealers are still discounting the Hybrids. We got the Civic Hybrid with Nav for $1900 off list and the extended warranty for $200 over dealer cost. It's a fun tight car and with gas prices now are $3.50 and heading up to $4 or more buy summer the pay back is shorter than you think.
go for the regular civic unless you drive all day everyday. Driving all day would be the only way you would realize any savings from the mileage after paying more for the hybrid, and if the batteries go bad your in real trouble, thousands $$ to replace.
