headunit problems 05 civic
I recently put in a pioneer head unit in my 05 civic..Took 4 long hours but we finally got it working by splicing the red and yellow wires off the headunit..to the red wire from the car..the yellow off the car was not receving any voltage but now I have no memory in the headunit..the bigger of the problems is that my speedometer rattles when car starts..and dash lights do not come on when car is not turned on but the headlights are engaged...any thoughts?
welcome to the forum, need to get a wire diagram for your car, and match it to the pioneer head. you might have disconnected a power line to the dash while hooking up pwr to the radio. I did a pioneer hood up on my accord, and had the service manual to match the lines up, everything worked good.
Thanks for the idea..and we had wired everything correctly but something is still wrong because the yellow wire coming from the car isnt getting any voltage when we checked with a volt meter..? any more ideas
hi, more than likely the colors aren't going to match. you need to get the cars wiring diagram not the head units. [http://www.the12volt.com/ as far as the dash lights go there is a wire that went to your factory unit that turns the lights on the buttons on. this gives a 12v when the lights turn on, and is ground when off. if this wired was cut and spliced and was touching ground as the lights were turned on you probably blew a fuse. as far as the speedometer goes, some vehicles have a vss (vehicle speed sensor) wire that is pre wired behind the radio that is place there for factory navigation. if you wired into this it could cause the speedometer to act funny. my suggestion is to take out everything and start over using the correct wiring for the car. and for the next time you do a radio i would recommend getting a $15 harness from your local audio shop easy to do and save a lot of headaches and time. it also allows you to put the factory unit back in if needed. just a thought. hope this helps.
