Looking at an acura TL (civic in disguise) to buy
 

I've been considering picking this car up for a couple days now, the price is pretty good at 500 bucks, but there's a tranny issue with it.

Essentially when I test drove it, it was slipping in first gear when I had the shift selector in D4, but when I went to D2, there was no slipping whatsoever. Now a buddy tells me that could be a solenoid issue (which I hope is cheap as chips to fix, so please tell me if this is the case), and I've looked up a way to test the solenoid.

But I'd sure like to hear some thoughts on the issue here from you guys.

its entirely possible that its the solenoids but one thing for sure is the acura tl was notorious for blowing automatic transmissions.

Same goes for the 1.6 el?

preaty much all automatic honda transmissions.

Thanks man. you just saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs.

Just as an aside: i called acura regarding their recalls and they said the vin I quoted was not eligible for the recall. Their loss I suppose.
