Is this a good purchase for $5400?
Silver 2002 Honda Civic EX 2-door from a dealership. 117000 miles. I drove it and inspected it fairly thoroughly and thought it was in great condition, took it to a mechanic and he thought the same. Only problems were minor, such as two dings, dirty air filter, little rust on the muffler. I asked if the timing belt had been replaced and he said he didn't know, which most likely means it hasn't been replaced. The dealership is a "no haggle" dealership, but I still managed to talk him down $200, to a price of $5400 excluding taxes and fees. Is this still a good deal?

welcome to the forum. NADA is the book used now by most dealers, high bood 8700, trade in 4700 in excellent condition 117k miles. 2dr. standard equip civic. excellent is like new condition and all records available. I am aware the dealer has to make money also, but I would go inbetween and be fair, also be aware or ready to change the timing belt, cam, crank seal and water pump all at the same time. write if more info needed or email me.

my personal opinion, I don't like the deal because there is no answer to your questions as to mechanical work done to the car, no records. I'd perfer to purchase a car with records or a dealer who will give me a coverage on the car. the price is ok not great to me. You have to check the car out real good, look over, under, inbetween, paint difference, wavyness on the side of the car, bent supports under the hood, and then some. Do a carcheck for past damage or flooding of the car.
