Default Strange Fuel Problem

I have a 1990 crx si and after 4-5 gallons the car acts like it ran out of gas. I just replaced the fuel pump and it is still acting the same way. Any suggestions or ideas of what is causing this?

New filter same problem. 4-5 gallons then it sputters out like it is running out of gas. Any inexpensive way to check for an air leak?

you can use starter fluid, if idle goes up, possible leak in that area, be careful not to apply to exhaust pipes or hot areas.

check to see if your fuel tank has been cavitated, have seen this in an old model car, fuel sucked the tank in and shrunk it. Tank dropped from a 15gal to 10 gal capacity.

My gas tank is good. do you need to put the old filter on the new pump? i noticed thattheold onewas longer and thinner then the new one, the new was short and rounder.

keep new filter on the new pump. size is ok, if the filter was not good, it would show up right away, I will have to do more research to find out why after a short amount of miles the engine dies out, I will email you to a person who might be able to assist you, I will get into contact with him now.

Sent email to friend, will get back to you when he answers. I am now guessing, would the gas cap be creating a vaccum strong enough to stop the fuel from pumping out, The next time the car stops, release the gas cap slowly and see if there might be a excessive amount of vaccum.

Thank's for asking your friend. My car has stopped twice on the road, and it seem's like the car run's out of gas. i have bought 2 fuel pump's, a sending unit, gas cap, and a fuel pump relay. i went to autozone to buy a new stainer for the fuel pump. this stainer look's like the old stainer, but new. the strainer that is on the pump now is hafe the size of the one i bought from autozone.
