strange rear strut rattle
 

My 1996 Civic has a weird rattle that I've been trying to find forever. It seems to be coming from the rear shocks but it is not the upper bushing or the washer. They are tight and not worn. Nor is it the bottom bushings. They both made a metalic tick when going over bumps. I've had both struts off the car and they seem fine with no play or excessive wear.
Anyone have any advice or suggestions?

i had a similar problem on my 95 ex and it was due to me having the adjustable coilovers so loose to raise it up as high as i could do to a sh**y driveway. that the spring didn't stay seated over bumps and would pop in and out of place every now and then. it can also cause the rear control arm to vibrate quite a bit. maybe you are having the same trouble. i hope this helps you and good luck.
