Default tranny question

My Civic Del sol has 270k miles and the auto tranny does not want to shift into 3rd untill it warms up after a couple miles.
Will a fluid flush help this? As far as I know, it has never been done.
Love the car, hate the thought of a new tranny.

according to many transmission shops if the fluid has not been changed in so many miles, there may be more slippage or not good happen than helping. You can take a chance and hope, it may be cheaper than a trans overhaul, but be prepared to ovh the trans. and you have good milage on the del sol. if the engine is good, you may get 500k miles out of this engine.

honda does not recommend a flush they recommend you drain and fill which means you drain the fluid fill it back up then drive around a little then repeat 3 more times to get all that old fluid out of the torqe converter . but as stated above this mite cause more slipping because the newer fluid will be alot thiner. also honda has reformulated there trans fluid to full synthetic which cost a bit more. if i was you i would consider one drain and see how it affects the trans good luck.

Thanks for the advice, but it's too late now. Tranny quit yesterday. Rough shifting(felt like grinding between 1st, 2nd & 3rd) for the last few days then yesterday on the way home from work it just "went into neutral". Luckily it happened about 20 yds. from my driveway!
It's in the shop now. Waiting to hear the damage.

Hondas have an internal filter that you can't access so when draining oil let it set for awhile without plug and oil will drain from torque converter running backwards through filter and removing debris. DON'T FLUSH ever on any car.

Tough to find a decent one around here. They don't survive the road salt. Most nice ones have been "riced" to the max.
