2006 Honda trx450er

My 2006 Trx450er will not start its at dip dead center
we’ve shimmed it torqued it
bought a new spark plug
it fires and backfires but won’t start
we just took the head off and it looks fine not sure what else to do please help I’d like to have it running within 2 weeks for trikefest
