2013 Honda CRV
Hope everyone had a great holiday season so far!!
I have a question about my Honda CRV.
Background - My uncle passed away last year, and I am his only family (other than my daughter and wife), and his belongings were left to me. He was 95 years old. In 2013, he purchased a new Honda CRV. He didn't drive it very much as time went by and he spend the last few years in assisted living after he broke his hip. He asked me to periodically use it so it would stay in good shape until he could use it again. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to drive again.
He had a condo with a garage where it was kept. Once the condo was sold, I brought it here to my home and parked it in my barn (garage had my car and my wife's).
The car has 29,000 original miles on it and is in pristine condition. Recently, the transmission on my 2008 Toyota Highlander went on me. I had almost 280,000 miles on it. It was a great vehicle and owned me nothing. I decided to move on from the Highlander and use the CRV until I decide what to do. After a few months driving, I find that I really love the car and am going to keep it for myself.
I was looking at different maintenance schedules for it. But I am thinking the typical schedules are out the window with this CRV. It is very low milage but is 12 years old. My regular mechanic said breaks and tires are good and it runs like a top.
So, question to the experts. To set a baseline for future maintenance, what steps or servicing would you do now if this car came into your hands. I just did an oil change when I had the breaks and tires checked. Should I do anything like a transmission service or other service that the milage might not indicate but the age of the car does? My daughter is 14 and with regular driving, I might be able to pass it on to her as a first car with less than 50,000 on it. My uncle would be thrilled at that, as he loved my daughter so much. So, I want to keep it running well.
Thanks so much for any suggestions!
Mike
