94 honda civic dx sedan. Oil issues among others

Hello,
So I've had the car for about a year now and have done extensive work to it in that time. But not much to the engine itself and the issue has been there since I bought it.

Now that I'm doing extensive work on the engine atm I'd like to solve the problem before I go any further. Main thing being the oil, every 1000 miles it acts like a bitch and about 500 miles in the oil is black. Been using 5w30. I'm not really sure if it's burning the oil or its getting mixed up with any carbon and pulling it out. The oil levels have never dropped but I notice a change in fresh oil. every 1000 miles is the point I really start to make excuses to change it before it really comes to be a problem. Longest I've gone is 3000 miles and the difference was pretty noticeable. The oil wasn't milky or thickened, just dead black.

I have the head off the d15b7 in the car right now getting it ready to hold boost. Seeing as how I don't want to deal with this later. I want to know if changing valve seals or something like that to get it to stop. Any suggestions on what it might be?

welcome to the forum. being a used civic, the previous owner may have not changed the oil on the engine as you would, the new oil is cleaning off the old sludge. suggest that you overhaul the engine completely then when changing the oil it will be clean for 3k miles easy. my overhauled engine stayed clean for 70k, oil drained looked as clean as it was going in.

Okay ran into an issue.

I broke a rocker arm bolt is there any products that fit. I'm having a hard time finding bolts for it

have you tried the on line Carid parts, also on line honda parts, salvage yards, ebay

I've been looking with no specific way to determine whether or not anything would fit. Im wondering if some off brand bolt may work. Or if I can buy a new set even better. But finding them is the issue. I've been looking online but nothing looks even remotely close to what I need.
