98 civic what engines will fit?

i recently bought a 98 civic two door that has all the suspension work done. has a manual conversion kit and skunk 2 camber kit. now I really want to liven the car up. Do I do a engine swap, head swap, what can I do to get the most bang for my buck? I am not familiar with the Hondas so this is all new to me.

With this car, engine upgrading is quite very easy. The stock car comes with many options including a gas and cng variant, engine is a 1.6 (vtec/vtec-e) which can be sourced easily in used form. If you need more power in your car, you could modify the engine with performance parts or even get a newer motor and then give it the beans.

thank you smithjane, I did talk to a friend and it sounds like a cam, ecu, and msd ignition is my best bet
