Default Crack in Engine? 2012 Civic

Closeup of crack

Crack nearby alternator etc

Hi All,

First post, in regards to a 2012 Honda civic was just wondering if anyone had encountered an issue like the photos illustrate above. Basically I parked my civic, went to drive 2 days later. The check charging system light came on shortly followed by the hot water temp light. Took to mechanic who told me the issue was the engine itself had cracked, causing the alternator to sag downward, etc. causing the issues expressed by the warning lights. Is there any way to fix the issue. Mechanic doesn’t believe so, as he said welding it wouldn’t be possible based on the location of the crack. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Looks like the alt bracket has a broken ear. Get one from the junkyard.

Oh it would be great it that’s what it ended up being. I’ll check it out but mechanic seemed certain that the crack med piece in question was part of the engine block.

I've never seen an alt bolted to the block. I still don't.
