Default 7th Gen... WHAT?

Hello there,
New to the Honda world, but recently bought my first Civic.

2005 ES1 4 door, LX 5 speed, shes pretty clean with only 114176 miles when I bought her.

All stock except a 1 inch suspension drop from previous owner.

Like I said, first Honda, I'm a country boy, I live in the middle of nowhere. I've had my Jeep since 2011, and I love it. BUT.... Commuting to college 4 days a week, roughly 90 miles a day hurts the wallet hard with the gas.

I absolutely love the Civic. It's not a Jeep and I don't want it to be. I don't expect it to have 4 wheel drive, a trailer hitch, and be able to go trail riding.

So, just a friendly hello, hope to learn a lot on here and see what I can do with the car.

there was a european model that had all wheel drive and they do make trailer hitches and roof racks for the 7th gen. your going to want to make sure the timing belt was replaced at 100,000 miles if it snaps or jumps teeth your going to need a new engine.

Maybe I should have re-worded my last post. I still have the Jeep, I don't have a wrangler, I have a Grand Cherokee, so it still seats 5 and everything. I was considering a roof rack, but anything I tow; jetskis, snowmobiles, and utility trailers, I wouldn't want to try with the car.

Also, I bought the car from a used car dealer, I had him do the timing belt before I bought it. He showed me the receipts, the old belt, and you can tell from lookin at the front of the motor that it was done. There are tool marks on the bolts and it looks 100% cleaner than it did the first time I looked at it.

other issues with the 7th gen was head gaskit failure premature wear of motor/transmission mounts and front lower control arm busings mainly compliance. Yakima makes a nice roof rack for civics also for alot more info on your particular car check here 7th Gen Honda Forum - The #1 Community for 2001-2005 Honda Civic Enthusiasts

I also joined that forum. I also checked over all the mounts and bushings when I got the car. I plan on having the front joints and wheel bearings done in the spring so I will probably do the mounts and bushings at the same time.

as far as the headgasket, is there any preventative maintenance I could do? I know on newer GM vehicles they have the dexacool and say to have it flushed and changed. Is there anything like that?

never use Dex-cool in a honda only oem or oem compatible fluid as for the head gaskit no there is no preventative measure if its going to go its going to go. only thing you can do is change the coolant when your suppose to according to the maintenance schedule. as for your suspension if they used cheap springs i would be concerned for safety cheap springs can crack not to mention using lowering springs on stock struts will cause them to blow.

I know only OEM fluids in it, I was wondering if there was something like it. I'll have to check the maintenance interval and see when I gotta have it done.
As far as suspension, the kit looks nice, it's tokico blue, or however you spell the brand. Struts and springs. Hopefully its a decent kit. And its all a 1" kit on it.
