CRV 2017 Sign Problems
Subject: Multiple Dashboard Warning Lights on Honda CR-V – Need Expert Advice
Hi everyone,
I’m experiencing the following issue with my Honda CR-V (2017 LX, AWD, 1.5L Turbo engine). I’d appreciate any insights, diagnostic suggestions, or similar experiences from fellow owners or experts. Thanks in advance!
In the morning, 4 signs (Adaptive cruise control problem, Collision mitigation system problem, Road departure mitigation system problem, Auto high beam problem) appear on the dashboard. If I restart after 3-4minutes drive, these signs disappear, never come back during a continuous drive. Also, they do not come back even if I restart and good for 2-3 hours of rest. However, if I restart within 1-2 minutes of driving (when 4 signs are on initially), all 13 signs (Brake system problem, Brake hold system problem, Power steering system problem, Vehicle stability assist problem, Hill start assistant problem, Electric Parking break problem, Tire pressure monitor problem, Emission System problem, All Wheel drive system problem, Adaptive cruise control problem, Collision mitigation system problem, Road departure mitigation system problem, Auto high beam problem)show on-dashboard. These signs never go away, regardless of the length of time I drive. They only go away if I disconnect the battery for 15-30 minutes to reset the ECU.
Efforts that I made: Battery changed in May’2025 (Kirkland, 650 CCA), Jun’2025 (Honda, original 650 CCA). Changed Engine oil (June’2025) and after flushing the old oil with additives and added a new additive to the new oil. Jun’2025 I felt a little jerk in the gear shift during fast acceleration at cold start. So, changed the transmission oil (June’2025), which solved the problem. Changed AWD rear differential fluid (June’2025, Honda Dealer). Changed Brake fluid (June’2025, Honda Dealer). The Camshaft sensors are cleaned using sensor cleaning liquid.
Took the car to the Honda dealer, they scanned and informed that the timing chain has to be changed ($3200). However, I have not decided yet. After that, I went for a long drive to and drove 600-700 km, at different speeds (up to 120-130/hour), good fuel economy e.g. 7.2l/100km), no hesitation, engine sounded good, smooth driving observed, no signs during the continuous long drive.

All of the malfunction indication lights you list are electronic. While you may have a pending control module failure on the horizon, there are two things you can do to further isolate the issue.
Easiest first: Check the battery and ground. Yes, I read that you replaced the battery recently. That is meaningless. Make sure the terminals are clean and tight and if its a FLA battery, it is properly watered. Batteries are a common issue when looking at dash light shows. If you cannot fill in the blanks you have not checked the battery.
Resting Voltage: _____
Actual CCA _______
SOC _____
SOH _____
Load Test _____
So you said Honda did a scan and wants to ding you for a new timing chain with no malfunction indications.
What were the DTC’s that Honda relied on to make that call? No codes, no problem and you are back to a bad battery.
