Help with 4th gen civic engine swap

Im new to the whole honda thing, I just recently bought a 91 civic ex for a project car. The engine was swapped with a 92-95 vtec-e engine. The guy drove it down to our friends house one day and the next morning it wouldnt start. He thought that the engine siezed. The problem I'm running into is that the starter with turn and the engine will kick like its trying to start but I can't get it to fire. I replaced the battery since it was completely dead, replaced the spark plugs and the cables. Since the starter is turning i know it has nothing to do with the soleniod. I dont know if maybe its the coil pack or if its something simpiler. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated. Thank you.
