New to forum, new Honda enthusiast with question
Hi everyone, I just want to introduce myself. I'm a 32 year old mom and recently I realized how much I love Hondas.
My 2001 automatic civic has served me well for the past 7 years with very little work needing to be done on it. But now, alas, at 250k, the transmission has failed and I've learned it would be cheaper to buy another 2001 (it will be standard this time) than to fix my current one. This is totally strange to me! But I'm hoping to sell my old civic either as a project car or for parts. Does anyone have suggestions as to which option is better? |
welcome to the forum. if you call around to reputable transmission shops, you will find the overhaul to be from 1800 to 2400.00. The dealer cost is about 2400.00 if you purchase another 01 standard civic, it will cost about 2500-4500 est. plus any maintenence the previous owener did not do or if in luck all the maintenence has been kept up. check with the nada.com it will give you better value. if you can find a low milage std shift that would be good. you may get about 1000k for your car. again check with nada.com it may help you better. (on line) I gave my daughter my 02 civic and currently 260k+. 5spd.

Hi there, Welcome to Honda Forums !
|
Thank you!
To update-- I ended up buying a 2001 5 speed Civic EX with 137,000 miles on it, for less than my lowest quote to fix my auto transmission. My next step is to start selling off the good parts of the auto Civic. |
hi welcome to the forum :)

where in connecticut are you located im in need of rims and tires.
|
I'm in the northeast part, but I'm not sure I can sell those first as I'll need the frame to get towed away after selling other parts.
|
well if the wheels and tires are good then i could just swap wheels from my car to yours no problem their bald but they still work im in the middletown portland area..
