"You drive that..... Here's five dollars, get something to eat..."
Well I just became the proud owner of a 1990 Honda Civic LX 1.5L this early spring. I bought it for $800 and have a dream to make it dreamy. Its nothing to look at, at all.. On the bright side it only had 95000 miles when I bought it! Yes you heard correctly. When I test drove the car (the PO was a bit on the heavier side and so am I) I drove up a hill he said to, in order to park the car. We drove right onto the cement slab he had and that tore the exhaust pipe off from the catalytic converter all the way to the muffler, literally off.. I found out they had (instead of having it welded together) used nothing more than wire to hold one edge of pipe to the next. I took it to Midas and was charged a good chunk of cash to have it welded. On the driver side of the car the doors are totaled, and the rear wheel well is smashed in. The PO was reaching down for a electrolyte drink (we all know what I'm talking about) and veered into the oncoming lane and to no luck was side-swiped by an oncoming car. And there you have it.. My "you drive that," totally awesome 90' Honda Civic LX
Modifications so far:
My buddy and I decided to hammer out the wheel well just to keep the tire from hitting on the caved in edge and it came out pretty decently. I wanted it to sound a bit nicer so we cut off the old muffler and with extreme wrenching (and not so polite words) we managed to install a nice sounding Cherry Bomb muffler which sounds good when driving and quite when idling. Also I picked up a very cheesy looking hoodscoop just for giggles. So with all new vehicles we recieve (well all of us who like modding) I wanted a cold air intake. I went to the local auto part store and one of the dudes working sold me one he had for $20. I was told no modification was needed but this was a lie (and with many tool purchases and returns and a large headache) I finally found what I needed to drill a hole and was on my merry way. So the air intake ended up being shorter than I really wanted so guess what! I have now a short ram air intake! pretty sweet right? Well and what better way to make new use of my non functional cheesy $12 hoodscoop then to make it a fully functioning $12 cheesy hoodscoop, now I have more power -insert Tim Allen grunt from "Tool Time"- I of course bought the essential iridium plugs and right away installed those. So now I have a somewhat tuned, body damaged, 90' Honda civic, with some power! More to come I assure you!
