I'm the original owner of a 08 Odyssey EX-L with 112,000 miles.

For the last few months, I've noticed when the van shifts into 2nd gear I get a small kick in the transmission...
Every now and then the kick can be harder. When I drive conservatively I can keep it from kicking at all.

I have also noticed when I shift manually from 1st to 2nd and then to Drive and it never kicks.

Any idea of what could be going on? and if this a would be a huge cost to fix?

Welcome in,when was the last time you had the fluid changed,if at 60K then it may be time for another,my Accord was doing exactly the same thing,a fluid change cured that,something to think about.

 

welcome to the forum. I was advised by a good tranny shop that if any other trans fluid than honda, the vehicle may have a hard shift. Honda has an emulsifier added to their trans fluid to allow shifting to be smoother.
