Default 2009 Odyssey engine quit

My 2009 Honda Odyssey died, just shut down while I was driving. Mechanic said timing belt went which probably caused piston to damage the engine. My neighbor seems to think that it’s not getting spark or fuel as I heard no noise when it shut down, engine cracks but won’t start. Bought this new with 167000 miles. Is it going to junk yard?

welcome to the forum. when the timing belt broke, it stopped the engine from turning to save the engine from internal damage. by turning the engine with the starter, you have bent valves and or piston damage. you can find a good used engine from a like body, you can swap the engine out. eng approx 800.00. labor about 500-1k. you can get another 250k miles out of the vehicle. look up in bay at the salvage yards then email them for a good used engine. make sure you have all the needed items on the engine, like in ca need all the smog junk. or you can have your mech transfer everything over. try to avoid getting a Japanese shipped over engine, not quite the same as American or Canadian made.

Eric the car guy, youtube character, says to put a new belt on and try it. If it works then you saved a lot of money. If it doesn't then you will need a new timing belt anyway for a used replacement engine anyway.

Thanks for the knowledge and advice. I think I’m going to have someone tear it apart

Sounds good, I might proceed that route. Thanks
