2011 Honda Odyssey (196k miles) - Oil leaking into spark plugs. How long can I "limp"
Hey everyone,I’m looking for some realistic advice. I have a 2011 Honda Odyssey with about 196,000 miles on it. I am not a mechanic, so I’m trying to figure out how much borrowed time I’m living on.The issue: I have an oil leak that is getting into the spark plug tubes and fouling out the plugs. The goal: At nearly 200k miles, I really don't want to put a lot of money into this van or do any major engine work (like a full valve cover gasket job or ring replacement). I just need it to last as long as possible before it eventually dies.My questions for the experts:How long can I realistically keep driving it like this?If I just keep replacing the fouled spark plugs whenever it starts misfiring, am I going to destroy something else (like the catalytic converter)? Are there any "cheap" temporary fixes or additives that actually work for this specific Honda engine, or is it a lost cause without a real teardown?I’m trying to decide if I should start car shopping now or if I can squeeze another 6 months out of this. Thanks in advance for the help! P.S.I've read about VCM Muzzlers/Tuners. Is it too late for one of those at 196k miles, or can that actually stop the oil from fouling the plugs even if the rings are already 'stuck
Doing the valve cover is your only real fix. It's not like a huge job. You can do it.
