Cannot enter programming mode for key fob
Hello. I am trying to "add" a wireless key fob to a 2011 Odyssey EX-L, with the entertainment system (CD and DVD players, 4:3 "narrow" screen LCD installed on roof).
The key fobs all have 6 buttons: lock, unlock, left sliding door, right sliding door, rear trunk and panic horn. Two of them are the original ones, valet key has been lost, so I got a third key fob that is not yet recognized by the vehicle.
I have read the instructions on how to enter into the programming mode for key fobs; they all basically say the same thing:
1) Insert the currently-recognized key, turn it to on, press either lock or unlock, turn key to off.
2) Do the preceding four times, doors should sound like locking and unlocking, which signifies vehicle has entered programming mode.
2) Press lock key on all 3 key fobs, this gets them recognized by the vehicle.
My problem is that no matter how I do the step 1, no matter how many times I repeat them, no matter how slow or fast I do them, I never hear the doors locking and unlocking of step 2, so the vehicle never enters into the mode that should let me program the key fobs to be accepted.
Things I have tried:
- Do the {on, lock, off} cycles slower or faster.
- When attempting slower, wait for the center console display (of fuel economy, audio, rear camera) to fully initialize.
- Interpret "Turning the key to off" as position "O" (to remove key) ,or position "I" (most of car off except radio and accessories).
- Do the cycles with all doors locked, and unlocked.
- Press lock, or unlock, or a mixture of the two, during the 4 cycles.
- Pressing the button on a recognized key fob in my hand, while turning the other recognized key in the steering column.
No matter how I adjusted the above "variables", the vehicle never enters programming mode.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG OR MISREADING?
