Honda Odyssey 2012 error p0420 - then turned off!
 

Greetings,
I have a 2012 Honda Odyssey with about 175K miles. A few days ago the check engine light came on. The error code was p0420. The next day the check engine light turned off! Is this a Christmas miracle :eek:, or should it still be checked out? It's now been 2 days and the light is still off and the car has been driven several times.

Merry Christmas and welcome to the forum. p-0420 means your catalytic converter will be going out soon. it may come back on at another time. start saving some money for a Honda OEM.

It is a code for the cat being below threshold efficiency.
Sometimes it means the catalytic converter is failing
Sometimes it means the O2 sensors are failing
In either case, it is best to test to find out what is wrong before throwing parts at it.

Catalytic converters are not a wear item.
They should last the life of the vehicle if the vehicle is maintained correctly.
This means no running lean or rich. Oil changes and proper maintenance.
