RE: Who Are You-and Where are You From...
Hello Everyone,
My name is Sanford and I am in my fifties.
I just joined this forum today. I recently bought a '95 Prelude to use as a beater to beat the high gas prices. I need to replace the water pump and will go ahead and install a new timing belt since I have to remove the old one to get to the water pump.
There was some kind of plug in the right side of the water pump housing that has come out and I am losing coolant rapidly. I called the dealer and was told me the plug was rubber and had to be installed on the inside of the housing. The plug is $4.00 and the labor to install it is $375.00 because they said they would have to remove the water pump and timing belt to install the rubber plug. I believe I can do the work myself as I changed out the head on a '81 Honda Accord several years ago.
Are they lying to me about having to remove the pump and belt?
Can the hole in the water pump housing be tapped and a bolt installed in the hole so as to avoid having to remove the pump?
What is the rubber plug there for?
Can I just put a little JB Weld in the hole?
I need directions to change out water pump and timing belt as I do not have a shop manual on this car. Please help if you can!
Thanks,
Sanford
