230F Crank case oil leak

Hey, I just noticed this oil leak. Looks like he hit something. What is the round plug looking piece? Looks like it’s leaking from it. Can I remove case and fix this plug, or is the case shot, needing replacement? |
Never mind I figured it out
That round thing is an oil pressure tap plug. Its plugged because it was made to redirect oil flow after the case was drilled after casting. If it fails, most of the oil will purge out in a matter of seconds! Best bet would be to temove the case, drill out the plug CAREFULLY with a small drill. Use the appropriate sized drill for tapping hole and insert a proper length (short) set screw inserted with red loctite. You don’t want the screw to block the flow of the oil passage. Many use that port to tie an oil cooler into the system. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/hondafo...a8d07a4e1.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/hondafo...b6745d05e.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/hondafo...7ed0749ea.jpeg |
I’ve had the cover gasket for a while now. Just waiting for some down time to check/clean the centrifugal filter.
I’m thinking better to drill and tap instead of replacing with new cover. New cover will have same plug/weakness. Unless I replace new and find a protective cover. hmm🤔🤔 |
There’s a brand new clutch cover on EBay for $65.

The plug is leaking. Pop it out and replace it with a coat of teflon to seal.
