Hi all. I have a 21 pilot black edition. Im at 40 k miles. I have a A17 maintenance alert.

do i really need to replace the brake fluid??? If so, does anyone have a video or instructions on it?? Im guessing i will just empty the reserevor then bleed all 4 calipers...(seems kinda early to do this)... just looking for input

Get brake fluid test strips and see if it's bad. Probably is fine.

 

I still have 70% oil life, but the A17 code is on the display under the oil life, presumably indicating that this will be the next recommended service. The "7" indicates that I should replace my brake fluid. I understand that brake fluid replacement is based on time and is hygroscopic, but I've never replaced it sooner than 4 years. My car has been on the road for 25 months and has a whopping 11k miles. I guess my question is: Any repercussions if I just ignore this recommendation for the money-grabbing drivel that it is? Of course, I will still do the required oil change and tire rotation. I'm only planning to keep the car for another year, so I can't imagine that it is worth it to flush the practically new brake fluid. Thanks!

 

After a certain amount of time, the brake fluid, after it has had time to absorb water, needs to be changed. The water can cause corrosion of certain brake parts. It can be done thru brake bleeding each of the caliper the calipers until the fluid comes out clear. Make sure to never let the brake fluid reservoir go empty. If it does then air can get into the system and cause more issues. Personally, I wait about three to four years before changing brake fluid. and oil change about every 6 months regardless of miles driven. I only drive about 6k miles per year. And tranny fluid whenever I change the brake fluid. Which reminds me I need to change the coolant soon.
