2000 Prelude in an accident, need advice...
 

So... need advice and signed up on here hoping for some answers...
a semi sideswipes my 2000 Prelude on the highway and keeps going, thought my mirror was the only damage, stop at next exit and see the front bumper is gone, but no dents or anything and paint only slightly scraped on driver front fender.
Car still drives fine, get an estimate for $1400 to fix auto body, but day before I take it in power steering and A/C go out...
Once they start looking at it, they say that the crank shaft pulley is loose, engine mechanic needs to look at it, costs are up to $3400 and insurance now says its a total loss...
Engine mechanic says it's $700 to fix timing belt covers, timing belt, and crank shaft pulley... so I could get it fixed and have a little bit left over from insurance (although I'll have a salvage title), but then next day engine mechanic says lower crank bolt is broken and will be ~$4000 to fix...
It's been babied, garage kept, leather interior, 150k miles... so I'd prefer to keep it... but can't go in debt to keep it...
How much do you guys think it would truly be to get the car fixed?
or should I go ahead and take the insurance money and get a lesser car?

welcome to the forum. This is a difficult decision to make. Depends on how much you like the car, Honda does not make the prelude anymore. You mentioned you would not want to go into debt on the car. You might look into ebay and find the salvage yards selling honda engines, find like engine and replace it may be lesser cost. Find another garage that works on Hondas and get another estimate. Get 3 if you can and the estimates may vary in amount. Price sounds a bit high, depends on what they are going to do with the engine broken crank bolt. the crank replacement would be a complete engine tear down, or almost.
