ATV performance modifications

There are so many performance mods available to increase atv acceleration. My son want them all- but first he wants bigger carb jets and exhaust pipe. Later new cam,..etc.
In general, Iassume that these mods will increase acceleration, but, in generalwill they reduce engine life and reliability?

I tell my son that Honda is aware of performance mods and they select parts to balance acceleration with reliability.

Of course he will not listen to me. I would like some comments from Honda experts.

RE: ATV performance modifications

My son has a 2003 400 ex. He wants to spend ~2000 on engine mods. I told him that he would be better off just trading in the 400ex for a 450 because the 450 is engineered propely to handle the higher HP (it is liquid cooled etc.)
ANYONE FROM HONDA EVER COMMENT ON ANY OF THE FORUMS ON THIS HONDA WEBSITE?

Honda does offer a high-perfomance kit for the newer quads. Especially the 450R, i am not sure if they offered them forthe2003quads. A cheap easy way to get the quad to get up and go quicker is to put a bigger chain sproket on the front and a smaller on on the back. These greatly increase the quickness of the quad. It also has nothing to do with the engine or transmission. Exhaust and jets are a simple and easy upgrade but can be expensive and may even change suggested fuel octane. I myself work at Heriatge Honda in Maysville, Kentucky. The 450R is a great bike, and is plenty quick, but if I was wanting some big performance trade that 400 in on the new 700XX!! One of the badest quads in existence. Pops a wheelie in 5 th gear from a stand still.
