Looking at doing this on the weekend. I see some videos where they removed the radiator and the intake manifold, is it really necessary to remove the radiator? How long of a job is this for someone with decent mechanical skills and tools? Also, what replacement starter should I get? Since it looks like a fairly involved job I don't care to get a cheap parts store reman, even a lifetime warranty doesn't mean much if you have to do the labor again.

 

Dont see why you need to remove the rad,but be sure and use Honda parts ,you won't regret it.

 

Thanks, looks like the OEM is a Denso. The dealer wants $400 for a reman and my local import parts house has the same one for $150. Do you know if there is a write up on this job or a link to FSM files?

 

Just did a search and there appears to be several wAys to remove the starter,one is to remove the intake and another is remove the rad and not the intake.either way its not as easy as replacing a starter on my old F350 . Good luck might take an afternoon.

 

Thanks, it went pretty easy. Just removed the intake manifold and air tube, loosened the injector harness from the intake along with removing a few connectors and vacuum lines to allow the manifold to swing up and out of the way. The starter bolts were pretty tight, had to finagle an impact down in there to break loose the front one. Bought the OEM starter and intake gasket and put her all back with proper torque on everything. 3 hours of leisure working with my granddaughter doing a lot of it (her car) and that includes the parts run. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be from the $600 everyone wanted for the job.


Detailed the engine compartment when we were through and installed a hands free device.


Next job, power door locks don't always work right and do weird stuff with the remote but they always work right from the vehicle controls.


I had this problem with my 02 F-350 and it was the vehicle security module, wonder if there is a similar module in the Honda.

We only have one remote. The other one got "sorta smashed" according to my granddaughter.

 

First try a new battery,you can buy them anywhere ,batteries plus or even Lowes. One of mine lost the code and i had to reprogram it.

 

Good idea we will try that first. What's up with this forum, seems kinda deserted? Is it just that these cars are so good people hardly come here with issues? Or is there a really rockin forum somewhere that I missed? I am used to the Powerstroke forums where you post at 6:00 and by 9:00 you have twenty replies.
