Default 2000 CRV key needs jiggling to turn

A few days ago, the ignition key to my 2000 CRV wouldn't turn. I made sure it was in park. Turning the steering wheel did not help. After 2 minutes of jiggling the key, removing and reinserting it a few times, it finally turned. I did not apply more than regular force.
Ever since, this has been happening every time I need to start the car. The condition has not gotten better or worse.
The key looks visually fine.
I read that I should put electrical contact cleaner into the key cylinder. I also read that this should not be done with some vehicles, Honda included as they have a theft deterrent system that would not take well to this treatment.
I don't know if my old (2000) vehicle has a theft deterrent system. I suspect it does not. The key is a simple one without a transponder.
Should I try cleaning out the cylinder or is it inadvisable?
Any other suggestions?
Think the key is worn? I'm inclined to think not.
Thanks

welcome to the forum. Have you tried a spare key, normally there are 2 keys when you purchase a vehicle. Possible the switch is worn. if you have many keys on your key ring it will ware the switch.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare key.
If it were gradual wear, wouldn't the problem appear slowly? The problem started abruptly.
I could get a new key made. Where would I find the key code? I don't have it on my paperwork. Can you suggest a good place to get the key made once I have the code?
Is it safe to try to clean out the lock cylinder?
Thanks again

Take it to a locksmith, the can determine the code by resistance.
