Hi there!

I am having an issue getting my CR-V to start. The ignition turns over but makes a clicking noise and that’s about it. My husband tried jumping it and charging the battery (it’s factory battery) but none of that worked.

My Honda is a 2002 with 88,000 miles. I’m the second owner and try to get it maintained regularly. Any ideas?

 

First is that you said it is a factory battery. 2002 battery?? That means it had a service life of near 17 to 18 years?
Most batteries last 4 years or close to 7 years if one is lucky. Other wise I misunderstood.
If 2002 then replace battery. Locate the manufacturer's date code on battery.

Next is to clean the battery posts and cable terminals on the posts.
Also, follow the negative cable to chassis and clean the grounding points.
Don't forget to do the engine grounding strap.
Doing this will eliminate corrosion as a cause.

Now try swapping relays. The starter relay is probably the one that is clicking.
Swap relay will tell you if the cause is the relay.
Be sure to inspect the fuse box and relay socket for corrosion

If all else fails then check the terminals on the starter
One wire is from the ignition
The other thicker one is from the battery.
They may also need cleaning.
Starter is in a tough location.

In a quiet place, turn key to "ON" position.
Listen for fuel pump to turn on for about two seconds.
You can also try spraying starter fluid into the in-take to see if it starts.

Check for spark at the plugs.
If no spark and no fuel injector pulse then could be crank sensor.

Take it one step at a time.
