Question 2004 CRV Oil Loss

I have had my 2004 CRV LXS in the shop several times trying to find out where I am losing oil. Two different mechanics located different visible oil leaks. Both were repaired, but I am still losing oil, up to 2 qts a week!

We've inspected the engine up and down and it is dry on the outside. There are no visible oil leaks and there is no dripping on the driveway.

One Honda dealer mechanic said it was the rings, which shocked me since this engine has right at 150k miles. I asked him if it were the rings, shouldn't I be seing smoke coming from the exhaust? There has been no smoke, none. And, nothing when the engine starts. He said the catalytic converter was probably burning it off. Seems like a lot of oil to burn off.

I've put a lot of money into this car recently and it runs well, but only gets between 18 and 20 mpg. This oil loss is driving me nuts. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome in,I have no answer for the oil loss but several years ago I countered a similar problem with a friends car,it turned out when he changed the oil he wasn't putting enough in at change time,he looked at the owners manual and changed the oil for a 6 cyl. Car when his was a V8, one quart difference.so it may be a long shot but when you have the oil changed check it before driving it home ,good luck finding it and please let us know so we can maybe help someone else in future.

If you can go and run your finger across the bumper just above the Mufler Exhaust outlet does it have a Black sooty film?

Burning 2 quarts a week ... it should if its the rings

just my 2 cents

Hope this helps somehow
