Hi all,
Somehow my 2011 CRV developed some bubbles on the B and C-Pillar. See photos: C-Pillar B-Pillar
Does anyone else also experience this issue? This is not just faded color, but bubbles. Since it's actually vinyl blackout thin tape that's covering the actual door frame, so I believe there is no "plastic" pillar cover garnish (e.g.,
Some questions:
1. Have anyone tried to DIY replace these tapes? If so, can you please share your experience with some photos or even videos? For Gen 3 CR-V, the pillars are the painted metal door itself (with black tape on top of them). It seems that to replace those tapes (and to remove the rust underneath), I may have to remove the door glass on all 4 doors, to fully remove and paste back on those new OEM vinyl door black tapes. Am I correct?
2. To do a better job to prevent the rust to come back (I live ~1.5 miles away from ocean and park my CRV outside), would you (1) peel vinyl tape off, (2) clean glue residue (3) grind metal back lightly to remove bubbles, (4) apply rust remedy/converter (5) apply primer (6) apply new vinyl tape (and possibly on top of it, apply the aftermarket covers), (7) refit window rubber... Any thoughts about this process?
Would you apply the aftermarket covers directly on top of the metal door frame (after it's primed), or would you apply the new black vinyl tapes first, THEN apply the aftermarket Door Trim Cover Pillar Posts?
