Default Code P1457 on 2002 CRV

Hey yall. My CRV has the code P1457 and it repated twice on my OBD2 port reader. Is that a misread or do I have multiple EVAP issues? Thanks

Probably a bad gas cap or a small vacuum leak on the canister. A repair should make both go away.

Gas cap seldom a problem. Cheapest easiest fix so it's always suggested.
Need to charged the system with nitrogen and find the leak.

P1457 is a DTC for unable to pull a vacuum in the Evap emission's system. Reading it twice on the code reader could mean that one is an old code or stored code. The second is a pending code. Simple code readers do not distinguish the difference, sometimes. Anyway, gas gets pump into the gas tank. Liquid goes in and air is displaced and must come out. It goes out the vent tube which goes thru the evap canister or charcoal canister. The gas fumes are absorbed by the charcoal canister and the cleaner air is released thru the vent valve. When engine is on highway, the engine can use more fuel. The purge valve is opened and the air goes thru the vent valve and thru the charcoal canister to pick up the gas fumes and the engine pulls the air thru purge valve from the charcoal canister. The system is often tested at times by either creating pressure or creating a vacuum. If gas cap is not on tight then it will let air in and cause a check engine light because it can not create a vacuum. Also possible is the vent valve can not closed and so it can not create a vacuum. Or the purge valve can not open which doesn't allow the engine to pull a vacuum thru the Evap system. The gas tank does have a pressure sensor.

Now you know how the evap emission system simply works. Some manufacturers make it much more complicated. Honda keeps it easy. So, good luck finding the cause.
