Default Engine fire

I have a 2007 Honda CRV with approximately 100,000 miles. Engine was in good shape, never had any engine problems. I changed batteries and started the engine, and drove it about 50 feet, and parked it with the engine running. Five minutes later I noticed smoke coming from under the hood, I hooked up a garden hose, and sprayed the fire out, but it burned for about five minutes. When I opened the hood, I noted one of the battery posts had completely melted, so I assumed this is what started the fire. Has anyone had any experience with this sort of happening? Since I only carried liability insurance, I'm out a car. I found where earlier models had engine fire problems, but wasn't able to find anything on the 2007. I don't feel this is my problem, so would like to find out if there might be any avenues to reimburse my loss. thanks.
