Oil filter life

Oil filter life
I recently purchased a 2006 CRV. I took it to a Honda dealer to have it checked out and fluids changed, including the oil and oil filter. Today I attempted to change the oil and filter myself, but the filter is extremely hard to reach (and probably very tight since the dealer installed it). I finally gave up on the filter and refilled the engine with oil. So my question is: how long will a Honda oil filter last? The oil is new, but the filter has about 8k miles on it. Can I wait until the next oil change in another 8k miles (total of 16k on the filter), or should I get it replaced right away? I hate to throw away 4 quarts of synthetic oil. Thanks.

welcome to the forum easy part to answer, if you change your filter, the oil does not have to be changed. life of an oil filter, i have put 12k miles on my honda fit wihen i had no time to change oil, just kept the oil level full. if the oil filter clogs up, it will bypass so it does not harm the engine. we had a member who changed his own oil on a cr-v and he stated he had a tough time taking a plate off to get to the filter and the filter was tight.

Thank you. I'm thinking have the oil and filter changed at 12k. That will be 4k for the synthetic oil, and 12k for the Honda filter. And then go back to the regular, once every 8k for the oil and filter from then on. I just can't figure out how to do it myself. I only have ramps, and it's extremely hard to reach. I think I'll just start taking it to a shop up the street from me and pay the money.

oh forgot to mention, when i purchased my 02 civic, we were invited to a new car owner class. we were given the opportunity to ask questions. one question was how long can i go without an oil change. the service manager stated 13500 miles but not recommended to go too long after the oil life goes to 0 percent. and yes go where you can trust the shop that changes your oil and use mobile 1 5w-20 oil syn. when possible.
