Default rear glass struts

One strut has unscrewed & I managed to get it back in. Then the other side came unscrewed. Then the first one ( this is over weeks) came out, so now a block of wood has to hold the window up when I need access to the back loading & unloading a dog. Is it normal for the threads on the hardware to wear out & the struts to come out? This is a 2001 so there's been years of slamming that window ( crazy design!). Too much ado, so now a mechanic on Monday; should I order the hardware assuming that's an issue? Thanks!

if you are taking it to a mechanic, let them decide what is needed to fix the strut. it is unusual for the struts to unscrew themselves they do ware out. my 07 fit 295k i changed them 3 years ago, soft to open and close.

Thanks! The struts still work ( replaced one quite awhile ago). Very surprised to hear they seldom wear out since both have suddenly gone awry. Don't you think all that window slamming has to affect them?

yes you are correct in that all the slamming does effect them, but at the factory, they have a hydro mechanical that tests the opening and closing of the glass unit strut hooked up thousands of times to see where their failure poiint is. if is to short, they modify until they are satified it has worked enough times for good customer use.

Interesting. Wish I could find input on failures; it's just weird that both have done so.
