Default Transmission shifting

So my daughter moved out a country for a couple years for her job and she gave me a 1998 Honda CRV it runs great and drives great the only problem is if I'm driving and I have to slow down and then step back on the gas if I step too hard the transmission has to catch itself and makes a big clank sound and I can feel it or if I have to step down hard like for a passing gear so that being a just meant a filter or what else other than that it shifts gears and drives fine.

welcome to the forum. You might try to get the fluid changed, and ck condition of what is at the bottom of the pan. be sure that anywhere to take it, they use only Honda fluid. if use anything else but Honda trans fluid, your trans will fail soon after.

Thanks alot I'm not a transmission person. Like I said it shifts fine until I step down hard to pass or speed up I can feel the catch up and bang. I will check the fluid in the morning.
