Default 1990 honda civic wont start

Ok last year it started sputtering some like it was losing power then died and wouldnt start back. put on a new distributor first crank fired up fine, ran for a year no problem...fast forward to the other day. seems to have a few little sputter episodes recently. got in car fired it up fine then just died and would not start. replaced distributor with a brand new one (warranty) just like last time....but this time when i cranked it it sounds like it has a compression type issue. makes about 5-6 normal turns and then a deep blow out type sound. new pluggs and wires and is getting fire...not a mechanic by no means....any suggestions. can it jump time or something like that. 1990 honda civic hatch w/ a 1.6 thanks for any suggestions

welcome to the forum. When was the last time you changed your timing belt? Normally it is changed at intervals of 60k. might want to check your belt.
