The other night while driving home from work my car ran out of gas, but gas in it to get me home but when i started the car back up it has a horrible knocking sound coming from the engine, and it won't stay running. The car had oil in it so i dont know what could be wrong if it. before it ran out of gas it was running fine

 

welcome to the forum. Did the car get hot by any chance, how many miles since a timing belt change, how much oil was in it, something internal could have given out.
