I have a 95 civic. When starting, the starter doesnt sound as if its connecting with the flywheel all the time(hard to start and sounds horrible). New starter, teeth all good on flywheel, battery new, cables tight. Is there anything I'm missing?

You may have gotten a bad starter. Most starters are not brand new they are rebuilds. Sometimes you get a bad one. You may want to see if the starter gear is coming out all the way every time. You can bring back to the parts store and they should be able to bench test on premises. Hope that helps

I'm pretty sure the new starter is ok. The old starter was doing the same thing so that is the only reason I put the new one in. There is also a noise comming from the area around the firewall. I just can't pinpoint the precise area.

It seems to make sense that the starter/starter drive is bad but when you have an expert and NAPA both tell you its fine, you dont want to run out and buy a new starter. Too bad we bought a new soleoid as I will get another new one with the new starter. I will post back when we get a new starter installed. Is a 3 year rebuilt NAPA starter the way to go?
