Default AC not working after recharge

I have a 2008 Accord. The AC wasn't too strong and I have to turn the driver side to 60 degree in order to get any cold air. The passenger side seemed fine. I figure it needed some refrigerant. So I put a 12 oz of 134a in it according to instruction. I have done that before so I think I am doing it right.

But after the recharge, I totally lost AC and it is blowing warm air even when I put it to Lo. I tried putting another bottle of 134a but it wouldn't take it.

What am I doing wrong?

I took it to my friendly mechanic and he plugged one of those gauges that had 2 dials and a few hose connection into the Hi and Lo valve. He turned a few ***** and a bunch of gooey stuff came out of one of the hoses. And now I have AC.
