I have a 96 Honda civic dx and from what I read none of them came with a vtec but the one in more car was a vtec and the motor blew so I was wondering with that said what can I replace the engine with. the engine that was in my car was a 1.6 sohc vtec so I would be able to put a del sol 1.6 vtec engine in it?? or an ex???

 

B16 would be a good engine upgrade. Or just have the same engine you have right now.

 

When you say blew,what is that about? You may do a rebuild.

 

If I do the b16 do I have the change the tranny out or anything I know I would probably need the distributor from the b16 but Is that all? Also I would have to get the obd1 b16 ? Would I be able to use the be 18 or no. And when I said I blew up the engine the rod went right thru the block

 

Better to get the whole engine with complete harness and tranny. It would be a easier and faster engine swap.

 

Well my one friend told me he had the same car/year as the one I have and he said he did an obd1 b18 swap on it and he said he is pretty sure everything match up except for.the distributor which he just bought one but my other friend who did the same swap.said he doesnt know if the tranny I have which originally was for a 1.6 sohc vtec can handle the b18 bc he just did the full swap ( harness tranny etc) so does anyone know if I have to do a full swap or.just have to buy a new distributor??
