I'm new to the honda scene. I build muscle cars.So I know about cars. I just got a 96 civic EX. I know nothing about it . I want to make it fast so i've been doing alot of research. well here's the questions.

1. how/where do i find the engine code
2. where can i find a list of what the engine codes mean
3. Is this a good motor to hook up
4. if not what's a good swap
5. do i go vtec or non
6. what are K series motors and do i want one
7. JDM or USDM

more info . it's a 2 door stick shift US car ANY help is appreciated

welcome to the forum. Will try to give this a try.
1. looking into the engine compt, at the engine, left top side of block (not head) flat area with engine numbers.
2. If you go to wikipedia.org to honda enines, you may be able to find it. If not post the info on your post and we'll give it a try.
3. If you email 91haydenSi, he may be able to advise you better. I was informed b series engines are the better.
4. I don't know.
5. You currently have vtec
6. k series are the bigger more hp engines ( performance )
7. JDM are mostly imported and have the larger performance engines, I don't know if many of them are smog certified. us engines have some sort of smog system.

 

if im not mistaken your motor is either a D15 or 16 it should be VTECH currently if u want to swap it B16 or B18 is best bet or research the G23 its an H22 head out of a prelude on a F23 block from an accord this swap requires more fab work but its worth it the K series motors r good for power but K24 cost around 5000 and the K20 ist much cheaper if ur just looking for a fun around town strret car id just grab some bolt ons and throw them on the motor u have if ur lookin to take it to track days swap in a b series they r good motors and lots of accesable parts for good prices hope this helped you a little peace

 

you can find the list of what do you mean by the engine code in google and as well as you can search in the wikipedia.there you will get every details of what you wnat. the engine codes of this verson of vehicle is of most upgraded ones.
