Default Installing a bike rack on the trailer hitch, need an extender?

Hi I have a 2010 CRV. I bought a Maxx Haul 70210 bike rack that attaches to the trailer hitch and I ran into a problem today when installing it. Ive never used the CRV's trailer hitch before, it had a square plastic plug which I removed, revealing a square, hollow piece of metal with a round hole a few inches back. The end of the bike rack that attaches to the hitch is square and fits nicely over the hitch, but the holes for the bolt doesnt line up at all. IT seems like a piece of hardware might be missing, like an extender for the hitch or something? Anyone run into this problem? thanks

The rack should go inside of the trailer hitch of the vehicle far enough to slide the safety pin in
Don't know why your's does not??

I agree it should slide in and the holes line up for the pin. If the bumper prevents the bike rack from going far enough in to line up the hole then yes you need an extender. Unless there is an adjustment on the rack which most have. Good luck.
