New to Honda... but a longtime love.
Hey all.
I just got a 91 Civic DX; mostly stock with a decent and crappy homemade cold air intake. My cousin just gave the car to me. Basically he beat the crap out of it and then let it sit for 2 months with no radiator in it. He also gave me a set of coil-over springs for it as well.
So I got it home yesterday and got a radiator in today. I was having some problems getting it started so i pulled the plugs to see the head filled halfway full of oil where the plugs usually sit. I took them all out used some parts cleaner and cleaned everything up and she started up after a little convincing with starting fluid.
After all that, here's my question: what does it usually mean when there's that much oil sitting with those plugs? Valve cover seal? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

There is an O-ring that seals the spark plug well and keeps oil from leaking into it. As with any valve cover gasket, it will start to leak over time. Sometimes tightening the valve cover bolts will stop the leakage, but more often than not the valve cover gasket, and well seals, will need to be replaced.Good luck,Bobby

Welcome to the forum ,you did not post the mileage on your trans, but just guessing you may have shift solenoids opening slowly,a trans fluid change may help,I know I had a problem where mine would shift into reverse very slowly and a flush cured the problem ,good luck,Bobby

beware of that 91 civic.. i have 2 of them and they LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE (etc) to have problems with the clutch assembly inside the cabin.. just check it every so often to make sure there is no play in the pedal arm other wise you will end up selling your Huevos to get the car fixed
