Default Starting Problems

I have a 92 Prelude S and on humid/rainy days, I have problems starting my car. It cranks over, but it never fires. Sometimes I crank the car for a while (15-20 mins.)and it will eventually fire, or sometimes I have to wait until the weather dries up. Has anyone else seen this problem? Is this an easy fix? Any Suggestions?

I am having similar problems with my 2000 Civic SI. My boyfriend had the car up north (I live in FL) and when the weather is cold, it idles rough-sometimes shutting off. He had to turn everything on (A/C, defroster, stereo, etc) and let it run for like 20 mins before the engine would turn over. Once it did, the car ran fine. He cleaned the FITV valve and it seemed to help somewhat. I have the car back in Florida so I am hoping that the warm weather helps. I am anxious to see what everyone says about yours, as it might help us as well.. Good luck and let me knowwhat works for you.

Thanks for responding, but I don't think my problem was so much a temperature problem, but rather a humidity problem. I took it to a shop and they misted my rotor cap while it was running, and it died.. the problem the mechanic stated is that "I need a new rotor, distributor cap, and plugs" (I replaced the plugs about a year ago.) I think my dad and I are going to replace the rotor, distrbutor cap and check the plugs and we will see where it will go from there. Good luck with your problem.

Im not sure if this applies but I know for alot of honda accords (should be similar),heat and humidity affect the main relay which will fail totell your fuel pump to prime your motor. Hence the starter trying to turn over the motor, but no fuel to ignite. Also try the ignition coil. May be affected by moisture? Good luck, keep us posted.

When we got the car home, my dad and I did exactly what the mechanics did, started it up and sprayed the distributor cap. There were sparks flying and the car died. We replaced the rotor, distributor cap, and plug wires. We noticed the old distributor cap had 3 or 4 hairline cracks coming from the contacts/terminal posts. We are hoping this is the culprit... we haven't finished putting it together and spraying it again (autozone guy gave us the wrong plug wires andwe got home late so we will try it today). We will try it today, and hopefully it will be fixed.

Theres a long list of things that could be causing this. Since you've already replaced plugs, cap and what-not, check into the fuel system and ignition. A clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump, clogged injectors,or bad ignition coil could cause similar symptoms. Also make sure your battery has a full charge and isnt faulty. You could be suffering from something as easy as watered down gas or something sadly more spendy like a bad starter. Have you had starting problems in the past? Is it consistant or does this happen only once in awhile?
