Default 1990 Accord tranny question

Hello, everyone,
My transmission was slipping... and I bought a new torque converter and a mechanic friend filled the converter and installed it. Replaced fluid with new Honda atf. After 25 miles or so of driving, it was fine, no shifting problems. Well, then today while driving it... would drive fine, then it would rev up and not go into second gear and then come to a complete stop not pulling. Then I shut the car off, turn it back on after a minute and drive it for two blocks fine then it would do it all over again... Any ideas on what it could be ?
Thanks for a reply.

their is a small filter in the honda trans that gets clogged. any type of gasket material or carbon can clog the filter. these are possibles.

Thank you acmech52 for your reply.

What would you suggest that I can do to clean this filter?
Thank you, for a reply.

Sorry, I only got to see the filter after the trans was pulled apart on the bench. Don't really know where on the trans it is to uncover to get access. will try to do some research. a service mgr at a honda dealer might be able to tell you better where this filter is at.

Default 1990 Accord tranny question

Hello, acmech52
I watched a youtube of a breakdown of the trans, There are two small screens under the valve body on a thin plate,
after almost everything is all disassembled.
No way that I could remember how all the parts go back together.
I'll just save my money and look for another transmission.
Thank you so very much for your advice.

Smile 1990 Accord tranny Problem solved

Hello, everyone.
I wanted to share how I solved my Transmission problems.
Went to Auto parts store and bought 4 pints of Transmission Flush and Conditioner and 2 inline filters.
Drained the fluid and put the filter on the cooler outlet line, put the 4 pints of Trans Flush in and flushed the tranny for 30 minutes without shifting gears. Then I started shifting through the gears. Another 15 minutes. Seemed to be better. Then I drained the Flush stuff out and put in Castro Import to finish flushing out the rest. I drained it again and put Honda ATF at last.
I put on the other filter and ran it at idle for another 30 minutes then started driving it a few blocks. It runs just perfect now...I'm leaving the filter on to catch the sludge for now.

Thank goodness.
