Unhappy 1998 Accord Coupe Climate Control Issue

My '98 Accord only blows out blistering hot air and only to defrost. I cannot not adjust the temp or change the air output location. The fan control works so i can turn that off, but hot air still comes through. Below are the things i have tried:
  • I have manually moved the control to the heat control valve that stops hot coolant from flowing into heater core.
  • I have verified the appropriate fuses are ok.
  • I tried and failed to clamp shut the small coolant hose that goes into the heater core.

What are some things i can try? Are there any control levers or manual mechanism that i can adjust to cold for the summer? Is there any electrical parts that commonly fail causing my issue?

thanks for any advice!

Update: I have discovered that the climate control panel is faulty. I also learned that manually closing the heater control valve by hand is tricky to know you are completely closed.

Take 2 on the bypass was a success, i forgot to burp the cooling system first time round. I am going to just leave it bypassed for now.

Wow that was fast. Good thing you have fixed the issue by yourself.
