Default 2000 Accord, needs transmission, worth fixing?

Hello all,

New member here. I've got a 2000 Accord V-6 (auto) with 140,000 miles on it. My transmission is shot and needs replacement - I've been told $2300 for a rebuild. I'm not familiar with all of the possible problems with these cars in their later years, so my question to all of you is this: Is it worth it to replace the transmission at this mileage? Besides the transmission, everything runs great - the engine is still smooth and the body is in great condition. I'm just concerned that I could spend big bucks on the transmission and immediately afterward the rest of the car falls apart.

So, how do these 2000 Accords tend to fare?

Thanks very much in advance,

Mark

welcome to the forum, Your 00 accord is in the years that had trans problems.
do you know or remember if your car has been had the recall, or done. I will do a bit of research and get back to you. It is worth having the trans done if you can get a good trans shop to do it or honda, with a warranty. Your accord should go to 350k ++ with good service back to you.
update, 2002 american honda extended the warranty of the transmission from 36k to 100k and or 7 years which ever came first.
My suggestion, if you have taken your honda to have it serviced per honda factory recommendations, and have all the records. If so, write or call American Honda, and ask them if they might be able to assist you to have your transmission fixed with their assistance on cost. Tell them you are a loyal honda owner and take much pride in your car. They may work something out with cost.
world news, Honda worldwide press release 2002 September 20,2002 select automatic transmissions.

My 2000 was having problems in the reverse gear with 88,000 miles on it we flushed the trans and it works as good as new, even if it needed a new one I would do it, these are very, very reliable cars and as ACMECH said you can get hundreds of thousands of miles from them if serviced regularly, now thats your moneys worth.Go for it, see if Honda will help.
